Synth~Dialogen (2019)

The Synth-Dialog is based on Animated Notation made by Jesper Pedersen, composer at the Icelandic collective S.L.Á.T.U.R. Animated Notation is like MIDI - expect it’s much more fun! The signal is transferred from the animation through to you, who are transferring that information (with an natural human latency) onto the audio generating machine, that you are placed by. In the beginning you choose a character/color etc., that you need to follow through the whole animation. During Synth-Dialogen, The synthesizer Lyra-8 is triggered every time she texts and the same goes for the synthesizer Syncussion. The concept of animated notation is in my opinion, the future of modern music composing. Today animated visual art is the ultimate dominance of our everyday life. One can choose to go against it- but I’m joining it. The old traditional ways of composing with blank pieces of paper are OUT and animated notation are IN!

The video piece addresses issues of exploitation, sexual harassment, and emotional harm, examining how one person misuses power over another. This dynamic is transcribed into a conversation between characters embedded within the symbolic power structures of well-known synthesizer and drum-machine hardware.
